After three relatively late starts, we set the alarm for 6:45am this morning and managed to be on the road by 8am. Not bad! Though we did also manage to leave behind the kids' bowls. Bugger. Nevermind - just another excuse to visit a French supermarket to buy more.
Have I mentioned how much I LOVE the supermarkets here? My first one was a "U express" in Paris (like new world metro, but smaller) and even that was mind boggling. As soon as Monday rolled around, I checked out the closest Monoprix and almost passed out. HEAVEN. Aisles and aisles of cheese, bread, yoghurt, meat.... And the fruit and veges are amazing too. The most frustrating part is, now that we're outside Paris, even the supermarkets seem to close for 2.5hrs for lunch. Not useful when you're trying to buy bread for lunch!!
So, a long drive today. The kids did pretty well up till the last hour or so. I really need some good ideas for keeping them occupied in the back seat.. There's only so many action songs you can do in a car! And not much to point out on the side of the road when you're on motorways.
We've lucked out again with our accommodation though. We didn't realise there was going to be any outdoor space so it was great to walk through a wee (fenced) garden on our way to the front door. We're walking distance to the centre of town and around 20km from Avignon.
Time for me to get stuck into another €3 bottle of rosé...

Shop hours similar in Italy. Watch out for Mondays..loads of stuff doesn't open in the afternoons and Sunday shopping is pretty much out all together (that's a Europe wide thing). Find the local bakery and stock up early in the day! Travel safe x
ReplyDeleteThanks Annette! Yes, the supermarkets reopening at 4:30 in the afternoon was a bit of a shock! We've got a big one nearby to where we're staying now that is open 8:30 - 8pm: such a luxury!
DeleteWhere were you living when you were over here? We had such a good time in Tuscany, I'd love to spend more time there one day (when the kids are older!!!)
