Austria and Germany

Things have been a little hectic around here recently with our latest chicken pox infestation.  Daniel seems to have been hit much harder and is literally COVERED in pox.  He had a very bad night in Innsbruck, unfortunately it was the night before we were due to drive up here to Heidelberg, but seems to have turned a bit of a corner and is sleeping a little better at least.

Innsbruck was beautiful.  We were only there two nights so we only had a day and a half to explore, but we all fell in love with the city.  It's very easy to get around with two strollers - lovely wide footpaths and flat streets - and the kids even managed to nap at the same time on Saturday which gave Mike and I the opportunity to grab a beer and relax for an hour.

The Nordkettenbahn was possibly Callum's favourite moment of the entire holiday.  A cable car ride (in three stages) all the way up into the Alps, with hot chocolate waiting for us at the top... He keeps asking to go back to "that really cold place with hot chocolate."  Fortunately hot chocolate with cream has been fairly easy to come by in Heidelberg too.

Heidelberg has been slightly warmer  than Innsbruck.  In fact today has been very warm and sunny since lunch time.  We took the cable car up to the castle yesterday afternoon and spent the rest of the day shopping, eating, drinking radlers and wandering the streets.

The food here (and in Austria) has been awesome.  We can't stop eating!! Every second shop has amazing looking sandwiches or cakes or is a great spot for a coffee or a beer with pretzels or bratwurst for lunch..  The kids are enjoying the food here too.  I was a bit worried as Daniel was off his food with his chicken pox but he has been eating really well since we got here.

Next stop - de Kwakel near Amsterdam.  We're there for a week and the house doesn't have Internet (but it does have a huge garden with lots of outdoor toys for the kids) so we may be out of touch for a while.

On another subject, here's a much cuter photo of Daniel (without the spots) that Julia sent through today..

Can you believe he's going to be TWO in ten days time?!
